The client required multimedia solutions for four theme cruise ships. Two ships needed modernization, and two were to be newly built in 2026 and 2027. For their global multimedia operations, the user needed a proven, calable solution.
With multiple ongoing projects across the U.S. and U.K., consistent systems were crucial for seamless operations. Germany’s specific focus was on cruise ships, with the first project completed in early 2024. The client wanted a flexible IP-based system for reduced cabling, greater adaptability, and remote support, as well as the ability to broadcast multimedia content across various ship locations, including theaters and studios. The chosen solution must be compatible with upcoming projects and ship builds. One ship had an existing but limited Emerald setup, while the other had no such system, creating a need for a scalable, centralized solution.
The client adopted the Black Box® Emerald® solution, leveraging its IP-based flexibility to modernize their multimedia capabilities across gaming areas, studios, and theaters on the cruise vessels. Content broadcasting enabled seamless transmission of multimedia from theaters and studios to various locations on the ship. Integrated control simplified control of lighting and video in theater spaces.
Minimal infrastructure reduced cabling needs while expanding functionalities.
The Emerald solution allowed the client to achieve flexible, high-quality content transport, delivering entertainment and operational excellence to every corner of the ship.

The first ship’s modernization was completed successfully in early 2024. The client expressed satisfaction with the results during the IBC Amsterdam meeting. The IP-based system enabled the broadcast of content from any location to any part of the vessel. Control over theater lighting and multimedia systems became more streamlined. IP-based flexibility revolutionized the onboard multimedia setup, reducing infrastructure costs and effort.
The scalable Emerald solution proved its capability for integration into future projects. The solution positions the client for continued growth, accommodating both upcoming ship builds and evolving operational requirements.
