Black Box Releases Emerald Remote App for macOS, the First Software Control-Based Receiver for Apple Devices

Now Commercially Available, the New Software-Only Solution Delivers Full Control Functionality to macOS Users While Eliminating Hardware Receiver Requirements

DALLAS Aug. 5, 2025 — Black Box®, a leading provider of digital infrastructure solutions, today announced the commercial release of the Emerald® Remote App for macOS®, the industry’s first software-based keyboard, video, and mouse (KVM) receiver for Apple® devices. Now available for download, the new solution empowers Mac® users to securely access both physical and virtual machines without the need for dedicated receiver hardware.

“Creative professionals and post-production teams have long relied on Mac systems as their primary workstations,” said Tom Fitzgerald, Product Manager at Black Box. “With the Emerald Remote App for macOS, these users can now enjoy seamless, secure access to remote systems all from the devices they already use every day.”

The macOS-compatible version of the Emerald Remote App joins the existing Windows® edition, extending the capabilities of the Black Box Emerald® platform. Users can connect to remote systems over standard TCP/IP networks using a Mac desktop or laptop, eliminating the need for external hardware and simplifying infrastructure across media and broadcast, as well as healthcare, transportation, government and other sectors.

When paired with Emerald transmitters and the Boxilla® central manager, the software receiver supports multiple simultaneous sessions, multi-monitor setups and clipboard sharing — all managed securely through centralized authentication.

Black Box will showcase the Emerald Remote App solution at IBC2025 (Stand 10.A27) in Amsterdam, where attendees can experience the full Emerald ecosystem in action. More information about this and other control and infrastructure solutions from Black Box is available at www.blackbox.com.
